Soren and Barbara Thomsen
They met at a swimming pool. She loved his stylish furniture and he loved the hot dogs she served from her business as a hot dog cart owner. They found a lot in common, from the food they ate growing up to the love of entrepreneurial endeavors.
Soren was born and raised in Denmark. After finishing his primary education, he focused on the furniture industry and was educated in a Danish program specifically oriented to furniture. In 1983, he came to the United States as a business intern with a contemporary furniture store in El Paso, Texas. He stayed on and was employed as sales manager for some ten years before moving to Albuquerque in 1993. Soren took employment at TEMA as sales manager and quickly rose through the ranks to become a partner in 2000.
Barbara was born and raised in New Mexico. After finishing her primary education, she worked in many facets of the restaurant industry, including ownership and operation. Upon their move to Albuquerque, Barbara became a "domestic engineer" and mom, took classes, practiced cooking, and volunteered for the next several years until she came to work at TEMA in 2008.
Soren and Barbara took full ownership of TEMA when founder Benny Kjaer retired in 2011.
